Cuvestrequin has been carefully curated for equine skin to support the unique challenges of wound management in horses.
It features a natural polymer combined with copper salts in an ethanol base to provide a waterproof barrier which allows for natural healing underneath. The long-lasting and durable gel barrier can be used anywhere on the skin where a bandage or spray has conventionally been used for protection. The gel will slowly harden but also, where needed, will allow ‘ooze’ from the wound to escape naturally and Cuvestrequin is completely biodegradable. It also offers robust fly protection, which is a unique feature compared with some other products.
Rebecca Fincham, veterinary surgeon at Hird & Partners, participated in the pre-launch evaluation of Cuvestrequin for 18 months and comments: “We have found Cuvestrequin to be a highly effective product, particularly in the management of sites complicated by proud flesh, those located in areas that are difficult or impractical to bandage, and in cases where frequent bandaging is not feasible due to horse behaviour or client constraints.
“To date, we have applied the gel in approximately 40 clinical cases. It consistently provides a durable protective barrier lasting several days, helping to minimise complications related to bandaging, reduce associated costs, and, importantly, facilitate an earlier return to turnout for the horse.
“Cuvestrequin is now our go to product for sites exhibiting excessive granulation tissue and those with prolonged healing times; cases that would previously have required extended periods of box rest. We have found it to be a valuable addition to our wound management protocols.”
