NoBACZ Launch Third SQP Training Course: Neonatal Calf Management
NoBACZ and VBMS Launch Third AMTRA-Accredited SQP Course Focused on Neonatal Calf Health
NoBACZ Healthcare, in partnership with Virtual Business Management Solutions (VBMS), has launched its third accredited training course for Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs). This latest module focuses on one of the most critical stages in livestock production: the early life management of neonatal calves.
Accredited by the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority (AMTRA), the course provides 4 CPD points and builds on the strong engagement seen with the previous two programmes delivered through the NoBACZ–VBMS collaboration. Further joint training initiatives are already in development as part of a continued commitment to professional education within the sector.
Strengthening Knowledge in Early-Life Calf Management
The new module explores emerging research and current best practice in neonatal calf management. Particular emphasis is placed on:
-
Navel hygiene
-
Disease prevention in newborn calves
-
Pen and equipment hygiene
The course is designed to deepen SQPs’ understanding of the key risk factors influencing calf morbidity and mortality, while supporting evidence-based, practical recommendations on farm.
By translating current science into applicable guidance, the programme aims to strengthen decision-making at point of supply and improve outcomes during this vulnerable stage of life.
Supporting Responsible Supply and On-Farm Advice
SQPs play a vital role in the responsible supply of animal health products, ensuring compliance with UK regulations while supporting farmers in making informed management decisions. As scrutiny around antimicrobial stewardship and youngstock performance continues to increase, access to robust, up-to-date training has never been more important.
This course ensures SQPs remain aligned with current legislation, product guidance and the latest scientific insights into calf health. In doing so, it enhances the support they provide to farmers and veterinary teams working to improve early-life outcomes.
Dr Emily Collins-Wingate MRCVS, Technical Services Veterinarian at NoBACZ Healthcare, commented:
“We’re delighted to introduce the third course in our SQP training series. Neonatal calf health underpins lifetime productivity, yet early-life diseases remain a major challenge on many farms. By combining practical guidance with the latest research, this course equips SQPs to provide confident, evidence-based advice that supports both calf welfare and farm efficiency.”
