Taking a Confident STRIDE Forward to Tackle Dairy Lameness
NoBACZ Healthcare are proud to be one of the partners in the STRIDE initiative; a collaborative cross-sector partnership focusing on improving and tackling lameness in the dairy sector.
The STRIDE initiative is a not-for-profit industry initiative which aims to improve mobility in the national herd by identifying causes of lameness, providing practical solutions, and educating the industry. The initiative involves a broad range of companies, industry organizations, and support from government stakeholders.
The STRIDE initiative ran the UK’s largest-ever survey into dairy cow mobility and foot health. The results of this showed clear opportunities for reducing the economic, welfare, social, and environmental impact of dairy lameness. However, it also noted that in order to make the most of these opportunities new thinking and a sharp focus will be required by the whole sector.
The next stage is a series of factsheets and farm events demonstrating approaches that can be applied in commercial situations to deliver better foot health and mobility.
The STRIDE report found 34 % of respondents ranked digital dermatitis as the most impactful condition on their farm, whilst economic modelling showed that compromised mobility cost the average herd respondent more than £33,000 per year.
Dr David Charles MRCVS, international business development manager at NoBACZ Healthcare said: “Supporting farmers with educational support and innovative new products and approaches is a key objective for all of us at NoBACZ. Therefore, collaborating with the STRIDE initiative to tackle dairy lameness – as one of their industry partners – is so important to our team, and another great example of how cross sector collaborations can benefit the entire dairy industry.”
As one of the STRIDE partners, you can find our teams at each of the three STRIDE roadshows this summer. Here our teams we will be running workshops discussing new approaches and important must-dos to effectively managing infectious lameness.
